Identifying needs in the Early Years

Most early years settings have a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) or inclusion coordinator. They may be the one to raise a concern about your child or young person, or you may raise the concern with them from what you’re seeing at home.

The setting will talk to you about your child’s needs and how they can best support them. It's their responsibility to coordinate support for your child in the setting and to liaise with other professionals to ensure that all the needs of your child are planned for in advance.

Early Years Providers will support your child’s progress and development. Identifying individual needs and next steps in your child’s educational journal.
