Specialist Teaching Team
Physical and Health Needs Team
The Physical and Health Needs Team is part of the City’s Specialist Teaching Team (STT). The STT provide high quality, personalised support and services to children and young people (CYP), their families and educational settings. We work in collaboration with other support services to enable CYP to achieve the best learning outcomes for a happy, fulfilling, purposeful, positive and independent adult life.
The aim is always to make sure that children and young people aspire, achieve, feel valued and are happy.
Through requests to the Learning Support Hub, we can provide support for children and young people with high need, low incidence special educational needs and disabilities. We provide advice, guidance and training for staff in the child’s school or setting to help children with a physical difficulty or medical need to have the same opportunities as others.
The team offer support to children, their families and schools by liaising closely with colleagues in schools and other agencies. We may work more intensively at different periods of a child’s life at school, such as transition to another setting.
Our aim, as far as possible, is to enable children and young people to lead independent lives and to be able to make their own informed decisions so that they can take a full part in their school life.
Our team includes:
- Lucy Hickey
- Lucy Nicol
- Emma Sharpe
- Verity Banister
