Specialist Teaching Team
Autism Support Team
We're a specialist team of trained teachers and teaching assistants who work with children and young people with a diagnosis of autism and those on the pathway for a diagnosis. We work with children and young people and staff in nurseries, mainstream schools and further education colleges.
Autism is a lifelong condition that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them. It is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain differences, their condition will affect them in different ways.
How we help
We:
- work with parents, health staff and specialist agencies to support the school in making provisions for the pupil
- provide regular training for settings and school staff about autism
- run ‘Drop in’ sessions for parent carers and hold regular workshops
- advise the local authority and educational settings on inclusive autism practice
