Special Educational Needs Team
Special Educational Needs Team
The Special Educational Needs Co-ordination Service is responsible for co-ordinating the process for arranging specialist provision for children and young people 0 to 25 with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The team will work with families where a request for assessment is made, which may lead to an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Roles within the SEN Team
The team is made up of 4 roles, including:
- SEN Casework Manager - this role oversees the team and supports the case workers with more complex cases
- SEN Caseworker - when a request for assessment is made, a caseworker will be allocated. This caseworker will coordinate the arrangement of the 20 week process from assessment to potentially the development of a EHCP. They will support families with identifying and arranging specialist provision for your child where needed. They are also responsible for ensuring that statutory timeframes are adhered to in regards to annual reviews. The caseworkers will also name settings for key stage transitions (such as Early Years to primary, primary to secondary, secondary to post-16)
- Plan Writers - the plan writers will work behind the scenes to write EHCPs, and make amendments if needed after annual reviews. The Plan Writers are not front facing roles
- SEN Professional Support Officer - this role manages SEN data for every child on the SEN Team caseload, manages the financial arrangements for EHCPs and collates information required for statutory decisions
