ADHD Diagnosis Pathway
ADHD Diagnosis Pathway
The referral and assessment process
- There will be an initial 30-minute call with our Single Point of Access (SPA) team to discuss the referral. If further assessment is needed, then questionnaires will be sent out to be completed by families/carers and school
- Once the questionnaires have been returned, they will be reviewed by our team. The team will decide if an ADHD assessment is needed. Families will be informed of the outcome via letter
- If it is felt an assessment is needed for ADHD, the child/young person will be added to the waiting list for an appointment to the assessment clinic
- If an ADHD assessment is offered, it will be undertaken by our team and include a parent/carer interview and a separate assessment with the child/young person. The assessment will also include a school observation for primary-aged children and, occasionally, for secondary-aged young people if felt appropriate. Additional assessments may take place prior to the diagnostic assessment
- Following the assessment, all information gathered is discussed and reviewed by our team to determine if a diagnosis will be given.
Post diagnosis - ADHD
If a diagnosis is given, families will be given feedback alongside a written report of the assessment. A post-diagnostic pack will also be given, which includes resources and information to support the family/carers and young person.
In addition, we offer two online sessions for families/carers, as well as an online session for any relevant staff involved in supporting the young person/child at school.
Where necessary, we also offer a post-diagnostic treatment service for ADHD medication. Unfortunately, there can be a wait for medication following diagnosis.
If the outcome is no diagnosis of ADHD, other recommendations may be made on what support may be most appropriate for your young person/family.
